AB 1266: School Success and Opportunity Act -- Policy & Practices Workshop
Date: Monday, January 12, 2015
Time:
3:00 - 5:00 pm -- Session for district and school administrators (policy)
5:30 - 7:30 pm -- Session for teachers, counselors, and other direct-service staff (practices)
Doors open at 2:30 pm. Refreshments will be served.

Workshop Description: This workshop will focus on understanding key terminology and concepts, policy implementation best practices and key considerations, and communication strategies for working with students and parents/community. The session from 3:00 - 5:00 pm will specifically address the needs of school and district administrators. The session from 5:30 - 7:30 pm will address the needs of those who work directly with students. This session will include strategies to create safe and supportive spaces for all students, including those who identify as transgender and other students living outside of expected gender norms. Anyone is welcome to attend both sessions.
About AB 1266: Enacted on January 1, 2014, AB 1266 requires that a pupil be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.
